Silver Ions

Silver ions are an antimicrobial all natural preservative based on a stabilised silver complex produced by a unique electrochemical process with silver and fruit based citric acid.  It is water soluble silver citrate.

Silver ions provide broad spectrum antimicrobial activity and effectiveness against unwanted skin bacteria and pathogenic micro organisms. Its fast killing activity makes silver ions a suitable natural choice for Refreshed Lemon Myrtle personal care products.  

It is formaldehyde free, paraben free, non-halogenated and contains no phenols and no quaternary ammonium compounds.  Everything you want and nothing you don't want!

The silver ions used in our Refreshed products have passed challenge tests for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, yeasts and molds.  Bacteria have been exposed to silver ions for over 4 billion years and no widespread resistance has been evident to date, therefore the risk for microbial resistance is considered low.

Silver ions have been formulated into Refreshed Lemon Myrtle Deodorant as they have proved to be an excellent deodorant active by exhibiting strong activity against Corynebacteria and significantly reducing body malodour by fast reduction of the number of bacteria which metabolise human sweat.

What is the difference between Silver Ions and Colloidal Silver?

Colloidal Silver particles are solid silver particles suspended in a liquid with a negative charge.  Colloidal Silver is a suspension of submicroscopic metallic silver particles in a colloidal base. Excessive and continued exposure to silver that is non ionic either through skin contact, ingestion or inhalation can result in severe complications such as Argyria, a rare condition of blue skin discolouration. 

The Silver Ions in the Refreshed products are NOT Colloidal Silver.  What we use is the silver citrate and only contains Silver Ions that are positively charged. Silver Ions will not dissolve or accumulate in the bodies tissues and will not cause or contribute to Argyria.
