Just four kilometers off the main beach is Julian Rocks one of the great spots in Australia for scuba diving or snorkelling. There is also hang gliding and gliding off Cape Byron. In winter there is the migration of over 400 whales, easily visible from Cape Byron and also the main beach.
There are also rainforest walks and tours with access to great waterfalls and wonderful wildlife.
Byron Bay’s natural beauty has attracted a great variety of accommodation to cater for these tourists seeking a get away from ‘the rat race’ and cold city dwelling. There are a number of health retreats, healing retreats, bush and rainforest retreats and guesthouses as well as simple but vibrant backpacker hostels.
In addition to the retreats there are supporting wellness centers including such things as yoga farms, day spa centres, aromatherapy, masseurs and personal trainers.
Byron’s Cultural Assets
 Byron Bay’s beauty also attracts great national festivals such as the nationally recognized ‘East Coast Blues and Roots Festival’.
There is also the internationally renown pop festival ‘Splendour In The Grass’, ‘The Byron Writers Festival’ ,‘The Byron Film Festival’ and more.
No buildings exceed three storeys high and there are no McDonalds or Kentucky Fried Chicken type outlets in Byron Bay.
Byron’s Industrial Enterprises
Organic farming in Australia had its strongest voice in the 1970’s from the Byron Bay region.
Macadamia farming, Australia’s only mass commercialized native food, is found naturally in Byron Bay and of course there are many Macadamia farms throughout the Byron Bay hinterland.
And Now – Lemon Myrtle
 Australia’s greatest plant, Lemon Myrtle, has rightly found its home in Byron Bay. With the vast majority of Australia’s Lemon Myrtle plantations found within a 50 kilometer radius of Byron Bay. It was only natural for the manufacturing and marketing of Lemon Myrtle natural skin care to be based right in the heart of Byron Bays industrial estate.
